With a family of five I expect there to be laundry, and there is. Lot's of it! Never ending it seems. Just when I think I'm all caught up, a child cleans it's room and brings in the mountain of laundry they have had stashed in the corner, under the bed, behind a bookshelf and dumps it on the floor. Great. Lucky me.
Each child has a basket that their clean clothes go into and that they take to their rooms. The idea is that hopefully they put their clothes away into their drawers. Most of the time they just paw through them all week long but hey, I'm just happy they got them to their rooms most days. Honestly, they are pretty good about putting away the clean clothes.
One thing though that I really hate about doing laundry is matching socks. I do not like it. No I don't. When I'm folding clothes and there is a match close by then I'll match the socks together but most of the time, I just gather them up and put them in the sock basket. Yes, I confess I really do have a basket just for socks. If you need a sock? Look in the sock basket!
I do wish that I had a more organized laundry room though. There are several things that I don't dry in the dryer so they get hung over everything. Chairs, tables, the exercise bike ( I knew it was good for something!). I wished I had a spot in the laundry room just for this. Ahhh another project!

we have a SMALL laundry room. It is big enough for JUST the washer and dryer and has a couple shelves above. I have 2 toddler boys so laundy can pile up QUICK. I find it easier to hang EVERYTHING on hangers except for suits and dress pants. I also don't match any of our socks. They go in their sock drawer... it's not a big deal to go looking for the match later on. I am organizing my hall closet today and making room for things... like towels!
I hate socks too! I match them though and if I can't find a match then they go into the drawer anyways! Our washer and dryer is in our garage which has its ups and downs! I just know one day I'll get caught without any clothes on in my garage! Eeek! I don't dry everything either so I hang them on hangers and hang them in the door frame of our guest bedroom :)
Holy crap I died laughing when I saw this because this is all I have done today is 6 loads of laundry and a whole basket of socks! I do match ours with 5 of us being in the family and kids out growing stuff every 3 months it gets old searching...which is my next project going through clothes that are too small or my kids wont wear :) I love to wear comfy socks all day long in my house so I don't mind socks but laundry gets old!!!
Things never change it seems I'm so much older than all of you and yes I have a huge sock basket. I have socks from when my kids were still living here I'm sure. I have Grand kids socks left from many many sleep overs. But when my kids got old enoygh I bought everyone the same socks. The boys got a new package of socks for Christmas or Birthdays and they were all the same. The Girls got the same thing. That ended my matching sock.
I love doing the socks! I have a slight sock fetish though. I hate hanging everything on hangers! I also hate washing bedding. We just got over the flu, so I washed EVERYTHING, including a few couch cushions, and so far putting the bedding back on was my least favorite chore. My ultimate goal is to get organized like mom Frank, and do at least one small load a day to keep up, but who knows if that will ever happen.
Our laundry room is essentially a closet off the kitchen and I hate it. With the washer dryer and utility sink it's full. Plus a trash can (cause there's no where to put it in the kitchen) and all the cleaning stuff it's so crowded. On my list for looking for a new house next week - Huge Kitchen, Nice Laundry Room :)
Thanks for the compliment!! I don't really have a choice, by washer and dryer are in my kitchen, so I try to make them as less noticeable as I can. When the kids were all home I would wash every day and every kid had a pile along the counter starting with Brent and going on down. The biggest problem would be getting them to put them away. I used to put them on their stairs so all they had to do was take them up with them, and sometimes even that didn't work so their dad did it, which made me mad because I wanted them to be responsible!! I just don't like folding clothes so that' why I keep up with it, even now. Wash, dry, fold and take direcly into the bedroom or bathroom and put away. Well, I put them away, but as much as Ron helped the kids, he's not real good now at putting his own clothes in his drawers, urggghhhhh!
